  • The event which will be held on December 2nd of this year focuses on terroir and traditions. The second edition of this unusual running trail offers five amazing courses between the Templar cities, the Grands Causses and Roquefort and provides participants with maximum freedom.- The Astragal Trail is a 60 km long circuit steeped in history – difference in altitude: 2600 m, difficulty: D+. The 1000 trailers will start from beneath the battlements of the Couvertoirade Templar City, then they will head towards the small remote hamlets of Les Enfrux, Canals and Mas Raynals before running across the Larzac plateau via the Guillaumard. Trailers will then follow the route along a series of ancient paths originally used by shepherds and thus will pass deserted farms and jasses (large sheepfolds) and lavognes (pools used to water sheep). They will make their way up and downhill along the banks of the river Cernon, through the Arinies ravine and past the Maquisard cave and Fabre’s rock. To complete such an intensive day, trailers will run another downhill section to the Tournemire amphitheatre and then up onto the Combalou plateau and its beautiful cliffs at the foot of which the village of Roquefort was built. After their passing along the bottom of the spectacular cliffs, trailers will run down to the finishing line set up in the narrow streets of the cheese-making village. Start time: 6.45 am.- The Orchis Trail Marathon is a 36 km long bumpy circuit – difference in altitude: 1900 m, difficulty: D+. The 1000 trailers will start this winter trail marathon from Roquefort and will discover the grande pointe de Causse. They will first run around the Roquesquatres impressive cliffs and then run down into the Cernon valley and up to Mouzet. Next, they will meet the first challenge of the marathon with the ascent towards the small hill top hamlet of Montclarat that leads to the Larzac plateau. They will return along the old Larzac railway and the hill top village of Labastide. They will then follow the trail to the beautiful crossing of the Marcorelles before going onto the amazing village of Lapanouse de Cernon before they start the outstanding ascent up to the Causse. Before returning to Roquefort, trailers will have to past the Maquisards cave, the rocky amphitheatre of Tournemire and finally tackle the ascent onto the Combalou plateau. Start time: 9.00 am.- The Adonis Trail is an astonishing 22 km long circuit – difference in altitude: 1900 m, difficulty: D+. This amazing route which starts from Roquefort is a great challenge for the 1000 participants. Trailers will start with a downhill stage towards the bridge over the Soulzon river, then they will run over to the other side of the valley to confront the steep slope up to the hill top village of Monclarat with its ancient houses full of history. After climbing the Larzac slopes and the rocks of Rocangel, they will discover the mushroom stone which is the iconic symbol of the Hivernale des Templiers. Once they have passed the logging roads of Louzel and Caoumels, they will reach le Roc de Fabre which is the highest point of the race allowing them to enjoy Larzac in all its glory. Finally, they will head towards the Tournemire amphitheatre running downhill through the marls. Start time: 10.40 am. - The Carline Trail is an accessible 11 km long circuit – difference in altitude: 545 m, difficulty: D+. Although the itinerary provides less challenging features, it still remains a rather demanding effort for the 600 trailers who will begin on a downward slope through Roquefort. Once in Carcan, they will be faced with their first climb, circuiting around the huge cliff of Roquesquatres and running through the forest down to the hamlet of Nouzet. From there, they will set off on the exquisite ascent to the village of Montclarat encircled by steep-sided valleys and overlooking the Cernon valley. Following a technically demanding trail, they will run up to Larzac and to the tip of the Roquesquatres cliff. They will then run alongside the Soulzon brook on a well-maintained trail with beautiful walkways until they finish by making the climb up the numerous Roquefort stairs giving a crowning finale to the race in the cheese-making village. Start time: 11.30 am.The Illuminés de Roquefort is the major new addition to the 2018 edition - difference in altitude: 545 m, difficulty: D+: the Illuminés de Roquefort is a dream trail which launches the start of the whole event from the Saturday night and is open to all: runners, hikers, walkers or people simply wishing to enjoy an outing in a pleasant setting, each at his or her own pace. The 200 participants will start from a Roquefort Société cave to explore this accessible trail in a semi urban setting which passes along small lanes and climbs up the many Roquefort stairs, thus providing the challenge with a night urban trail aspect. As the course runs alongside the small stream called the Soulzon, this circuit offers participants an opportunity to reconnect with nature and a sense of adventure, those who finish the course will deserve the hot soup offered at the finish line!To view the 2018 itinerary paths: Click here
