Millau at heart

unspoilt nature

Millau is the only town of over20,000 inhabitants entirely located in the heart of a Parc Naturel Régional. At the foot of the Larzac, the best-known of the Grands Causses, nature is immediately accessible here. From then on, it’s no surprise that part of the Causses et Cévennes region is included on UNESCO’s prestigious World Heritage list as a living cultural landscape of Mediterranean agropastoralism.

A local expression

Millau va t’espanter!
Signify: Millau va te surprendre, in Frenchized Occitan!

What to see in Millau

2000 years of history

Millau, world-famous for its viaduct, also boasts over 2000 years of history. It was awarded the Ville d’Art et d’Histoire label in 2010. The town center, on a human scale, can be explored on foot: everything is easily accessible, whether you follow Sandra, the Tourist Office’s tour guide, or independently and at your own pace with an audio guide. Climb to the top of the Tour du roi d’Aragon and the Belfry to enjoy its superb view over the town, the Millau Viaduct and the surrounding area.

Don’t miss the Musée de Millau et des Grands Causses, the Gallo-Roman archaeological pottery production site of La Graufesenque. And spend the evening at the Théâtre de la Maison du Peuple, a landmark in the town’s working-class history.

A head full of memories

Millau, a base camp for everyone

Millau remains a great base camp for anyone wishing to explore the region, with numerous campsites set up along the Tarn or Dourbie rivers, hotels, B&Bs and vacation rentals. Whether you’re a family, a group, a tribe or a couple, you’re sure to find the accommodation you’re looking for.

It’s a great place to relax, or to let off steam with one of the many sporting activities on offer. Sport and nature are in the town’s DNA!
