Water... Lakes, Dams...
Water is omnipresent on the Lévézou plateau – 1,700 hectares (nearly 3 sq. miles) in all – making it the area where there are the most lakes in the Aveyron département!
With 5 lakes – 3 of which are equipped for bathing – the Lévézou is the lake holiday destination par excellence. Pareloup Lake is well known to fishermen and is the 5th largest artificial lake in France with an area of 1,260 hectares (5 sq. miles) and 130kms of shoreline. [Fishing record: a 1.39m pike weighing 19.6kgs!]. Water sports fans love the place!
Pont de Salars Lake (190ha) and Villefranche de Panat Lake (192ha) also cater for swimmers and taking it easy. The fully furbished beaches on these 3 lakes are there for swimming, playing, resting and enjoying water sports: paddle boats, windsurfing, sailing dinghies, jet-ski… There are also play-parks installed for children on these beaches.
The Lévézou is also a nature reserve...
The Lévézou consists of traditional countryside with vast spaces offering open, rolling landscape. Viewpoint indicator tables and hillwalking paths will enable you to enjoy our scenery. You can learn to get to know our nature, to love and respect it by rambling along our themed walks: beech trees, botany, peatlands.
There are 630kms of marked paths to choose from. Circuits adapted to all categories of hill-walker are listed in our guides. For the more experienced walkers, the Grand Tour of the Hills and Lakes of the Lévézou, a long-distance country walk, offers you 2 loops that will enable you to discover most of the Lévézou.
