Musée de Millau

Archaeology ,  Handicrafts ,  Museum ,  Prehistory at Millau
  • In the heart of the ancient centre of Millau, an 18th century private house, the Hôtel de Pagayrolles, houses the museum: over 30 exhibition rooms dedicated to regional palaeontology, pre-history and archaeology and to the traditional activities of leather-wear and gloves. Palaeontology: diverse fossils including the famous skeleton of a elasmosaur. Pre-history: furniture from the palaeolithic to the monolithic. Archaeology: the most important collection of vases from the Roman Empire with the production of the Graufesenque workshops. Leather and gloves: a DVD film retraces the specific savoir-faire rich in ancestral traditions and modern techniques enabling skins to be worked. A recreated workshop shows how gloves were made, and this is supplemented by the documentary "The glove-makers of Millau". Illustrated documents retrace the economic and social history of these trades. And lastly you can't leave the Millau Museum without having your hand measured to know your glove size.
